Elementary hydraulic engineering is a very large and varied field, which can be divided roughly into following expansive works:
- amelioration of water streams with dry and wet retainers
- amelioration of ground with draining of irrigation
- hydrotechnical structures
- additional production of snow
Such works include various structures: retaining walls, sleepers, weirs, bridges, dams, agricultural pipelines for irrigation or drainage, etc.
The idea behind amelioration with accompanying structures is mainly protection against destruction by water. Various retainers should break the high water waves, parallel dikes increase the cross section of water beds, thus enabling larger water flow and protecting settlements or agricultural areas from flooding. These elements are often combined with structures serving water supply or hydrotechnical structures (larger dams, hydro power plants), which are handled by specialized institutions, but mini power plants are already business of Hidroinženiring.
